What to send to an LDS sister missionary

When my younger sister got her call this February to serve an LDS church mission in Seattle, Washington (learn more about LDS church missions here!, my brain started spinning instantly about what things I could be sending her in a package. I love a good package to show a little support or love, and I knew I’d be sending quite a few of those to my baby sister.

Over the past few months I’ve asked a lot of people for their input on what would be good in a package to a sister missionary (including current sister missionaries here in Texas!). I’ve gotten some amazing ideas from others, so I had to right a post about to help you out if you’re looking to show some love to a sister missionary too.

At this point, my sister has been serving for 8 weeks now so I’ve had the time to be able to send her a couple of packages and see what she’s appreciated too.

Here they are:

Dresses-this was the most common answer I got. After wearing the same dresses over and over again, you get a little bored of them. Help her out by sending her one, since she has limited options, and not much time on P-day to hunt nice ones down.

Snacks-healthy or not so healthy, whatever would make her smile (my sister loves trail mix, dried fruit, chips, popcorn, etc.)

Letters-this one seems so self explanatory, but I think sometimes the letter feels like an after thought when I’m sending a package! Some kind, loving, encouraging words from home might be just what she needs.

Stamps-to have on hand so she can send you a letter.

Stationary-she’ll need a card to write that letter on too.

Study supplies-post-it notes, highlighters, things to help enhance her studies, since thats such a big part of missionary life.

Photos of family/loved ones-to keep a little piece of home with her.

Conference talks (printed out)-a new source of inspiration. Bonus points if you highlight/underline or add little notes on it.

Things to hang on walls (photos of quotes, Christ, etc.)-to make her apartment feel a little more homey.

Approved music/usb-to have nice inspiring music to switch things up with.

Package with ingredients to make a recipe you love-to help remind her of home, and give her a fun activity to do with her companion after she gets home one night (if she has the energy).

Toiletries-dry shampoo, hair oils, texture spray, hair mask, nail polish, etc. anything that she would love or find useful.

Single use face masks-something whimsical (and light!) to send in a package to remind her to take care of herself, and have fun. And if you send one for her companion too, it’ll make for a fun girls night in their apt.

Fun, little things-I like to raid the Target dollar section for these! Think glow sticks, slime, a $3 letter board. Something inexpensive, so she won’t feel guilty if she wants to throw it away when she moves!

Do you have anything you’d add? I’d love to hear.
