July 4th: the Baton Rouge Edition

Every summer we live in a different city/state, so each year Independence Day is so different for us. We always watch fireworks, so that is one of my favorite traditions! And I always love getting dressed up in red, white and blue. Do you have any fun July 4th traditions that you just celebrated or have celebrated in the past? I’m always in the market for more traditions!

Our July 4th started the night before on July 3th, we went to a big parade in South Baton Rouge at 6:30 pm, I think because its just so dang hot here, that’s the only time they can do it without everyone melting? It was so fun and the boys loved every second. Jay had never been to a parade before and he was SO excited about the idea of people throwing candy and little toys at him! Something interesting about this parade was that they threw out tons of Mardi Gras beads. We ended up with about 40 beaded necklaces by the end of it, haha. It was pretty cool, and definitely unique to the area!

On July 4th, our friends brought over cute little July 4th tattoos. Jay got a frog tattoo painted on him a few weeks back at a little swamp festival and has been talking about getting another one ever since! And the fact that he and Charlie got to have matching ones just threw it over the top for him, haha. Best. day. ever.

After Nick finished up at work we headed to the Fourth Fest on the Mississippi River! The River is beautiful and was the perfect backdrop for the fun and lively festival. They had a *massive* slip ‘n’ slide, bounce houses, live music, dancing and food. Jay loved the bounce houses/snow cones, Charlie loved being cuddled by friends, I loved the gelato/music, Nick loved the party/bbq, and we all loved the fireworks at the end! It was so beautiful seeing their reflection in the River. I really do think this area of the country is so stunning!

Did I mention we were sweating our buns off?? If it isn’t already obvious, the south is SO hot during the summer.

On a more serious note, one thing thats changed over the years (unrelated to living in Louisiana) is how grateful we are to live in this beautiful country! Being from Canada, and not becoming a citizen until I was 18 kind of began to open my eyes to the blessing it is to be an American. I’m so grateful to raise my babies in such an amazing country, with such beautiful freedoms.

Jay watching the fireworks with Nicks super sweet teammates.

I hope you all had a wonderful Independence Day!
