Nick never wants something for Father’s day. He specifically tells me not to buy him something big, or plan something elaborate. I think this has to do with the fact that he doesn’t love a lot of fanfare, and also that he doesn’t want to be expected to have to reciprocate on Mother’s Day (oops!). To honor his wishes we always just do a simple gift or two. One of our favorites over the years has been a book about Dads for Nick to read to the kids.
In years past we’ve picked, My Dad Is the Best Playground, and Just Me and My Dad. This year we went for Dad and the Dinosaur. I love that the boys get to read a sweet book about how amazing Dads are all year round, and they have a little reminder to really appreciate him.
If you have a Grandpa in your life, and a little one, you could give them a book about how awesome grandpas are. Some fun ones are: How to Babysit a Grandpa, I Already Know I Love You, or Just Grandpa and Me , to keep at Grandpa’s house and snuggle up and read together.
Sometimes we just leave it at a book, but this year I’m pairing it with some car air fresheners and a spatula (random! but I know its something he’ll really appreciate, ha ha).
Do you have any simple Father’s Day gift ideas? I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating all the Dads in your life!
P.S. If you have an older child (that’s past picture book age), I love the idea of gifting them a Father and Son or Father and Daughter journal to fill out together I love this Father & Daughter Journal for tween or teen girls, and this Dad and Me: A Father – Son Journal, looks pretty great too.
